Kayci Lydeen: The end of week 7

kaycilydeen:

I can’t believe it’s already the end of week seven. It seems like the quarter went by so fast. All the stress at the beginning of the quarter has been slightly forgotten and all of those test are out of the way. Now I just have to look forward to the end of the quarter and start my last end of the…

Yep, this quarter definitely flew by!

Weird.

Some people do some really odd and interesting things that are hard to explain. Friday morning 45-year-old Keith Kinds of West Hartford, Conn. Stole a car used to deliver Chinese food and continued to drop off the orders to keep the customers’ money. Nobody noticed anything suspicious until the driver of the delivery vehicle called police to let them know his vehicle got stolen when he left it outside a school for a delivery. Right after the driver called the police; he called his boss and notified him. Oddly enough the manager was surprised as the orders were delivered even after the car was stolen. .

The only thing that comes to my mind is that this thief must be some type of entrepreneur that is stealing a car and delivering food as a business. He not only stole the car he stole the delivery man’s job! Typically car thieves steals the car, sell off the parts and/or sells the car off, Kinds did the total opposite.

West Hartford police apprehended Hinds after he made a few deliveries and they finally caught up to him after the owner of the Chinese restaurant informed customers that their orders were stolen but being delivered by Kinds. Police followed his route and eventually caught up to him. I guess for Kinds it was a win win situation as he stole a car and he was able to make money even by stealing a car and get a job.

Unfortunately for Kinds he was later apprehended for larceny, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and other drug charges as well. This probably has to be the most interesting story about someone who stole a car and then decided to work a job he never had before to make some money. This really sums up what I meant in the beginning that people do interesting things that are hard to explain. There is probably a million reasons why people do things but this is one of those things that puzzles you why he would do such a thing.

Stephen's World: Hitting the Apex: It's all about the lines!

Look at all those turns … A riders dream!! Photo Credit: Horia Varlan

When it comes to motorcycle road racing, or any type of racing for that matter, there is only goal. That goal? To get around the track faster than anyone else. Sounds pretty simple and straight forward right? The…

Yes, you got everything down! I track cars myself so we’re on similar pages!

Onto the next..

So for many of you that know me outside of school you would know that I have a love affair with cars. I design, build, show them and also track my cars. One of my project cars was unfortunately totaled Tuesday night in Huntington Beach. Long story short, my girlfriend was driving and an unlicensed driver hit her going full speed as she was stopped in traffic. Fortunately she is just achy but the car is declared a total loss after bringing it to a well known shop which I’ve worked with for all my projects. Well the question now is what’s in the future to replace her car? Well that’ll be a surprise for my friends but it’ll be something along the lines of what she had before but it’ll be built much quicker this time around. It’s so ironic how passionate my girlfriend is about her cars as well, she loves to drive, modify them and have fun driving over the weekend. It’s quite unfortunate to see something you put a lot of hard work, dedication and time into go just like that. Fortunately she is ok and it is time to move onto a different project. It’s very hectic to have to deal with looking for a new car after any accident really; it definitely takes a lot of time and energy. We already have our eyes set on a car, although we just need to figure out the logistics of shipping it back here as it’s on the east coast, other than that I’m pretty excited to begin to start over on a blank canvas. It’s definitely a bittersweet moment letting go of the old and starting over with something new. For those that know the feeling of putting together your own car, blood, sweat and time and money that goes into it is just the surface layers of what car enthusiast go through. Will update everyone when the new project arrives.

Princess Trista: Field Assignment one... CHECK!

tristademuth:

I just finished writing my field assignment! Now that calls for a celebration! Just kidding… but I am pretty relieved to check that off my list. Even though it’s done I am going to wait at least until tomorrow to turn it in. I have learned throughout my past experience for reporting one as well…

Sounds like you put a lot of effort into your assignment! Hopefully you end up with an A!

Use of Social Media

For my first field assignment in Reporting II I choose to write it on the topic of the various issues the iPhone 5 have been having. The idea of this story really came across when I personally received my own iPhone 5 on release date back in September and I started having problems with the anodized bezel down to the very troublesome Apple Maps. I actually coincidentally got inspiration to write this article based on various things I’ve been reading on Facebook and also forums such as MacRumors with a lot of users experiencing the same exact issues. I actually got in touch with a few people I interviewed through the forums that agreed to a telephone interview. The way my story was conducted was that I found various individuals who have experienced problems such as Apple Maps misguiding them. I reported on their experience on how they felt as if Apple Maps was a huge letdown to them. I then switched the angle to report on the physical defects on the new iPhone 5 and how the antenna band in the black version is prone to chipping and many people received damaged phones out of the box. Through more research it seems like these two issues were a very common problem. Apple publically admitted to the Apple Maps issue by releasing a formal PR release about the issues. Without avenues such as social media or even the internet publishing this story and finding sources to interview or even finding out that others are having this situation would’ve been next to impossible. Social media avenues now are also a way I could utilize to get my story out there after I’ve written it. It definitely could serve purpose to those whom are having the same issue to become informed that Apple will take care of them.

Princess Trista: Super weird... but I love my job!

That’s really good you like your job! When you like your job essentially it’s not even like you’re at work and it makes time go by much quicker!

tristademuth:

I find it very rare to meet people who can actually say without a doubt that they love their job, especially at such a young age. I feel so fortunate to have a job that not only pays really well, but also bring me so much joy. Some of you may know, but I work at Center Ice Arena in Ontario…

SEMA - Vegas

So next week I’ll be back and forth from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. I’m always excited this time of the year, and well also in January because of CES. Next week is going to be the SEMA show. For those reading this in the same industry (automotive) it’s like the week of being inside of a candy store. SEMA stands for Specialty Equipment Market Association. It’s a show that takes place every year at the end of October that attracts vendors and buyers, manufactures, retailers, out to Las Vegas to see what is new in the industry. Unfortunately it’s only open to those who are inside this industry. SEMA is pretty much anyone/everyone who’s a vendor in automotive specialty parts/accessories to come out and display what’s new in 2012/2013 and for the vendors to connect with other vendors and for vendors to connect with buyers. Major manufactures are there also showing off their project vehicles. This year I have friend’s who are contracted to build cars with Ford, Toyota, etc. This event isn’t a small event either for those who don’t know. Millions are spent yearly on this event in Las Vegas and to say its huge is misrepresenting it! If you plan on checking out every vendor a week wouldn’t even be enough. Just to walk the floors non-stop would take you much longer than an entire day! Not only is a way to see what’s new and what everyone has to offer it’s a great time to connect with people and also meet up with old friends, clients, associates. It’s also a great time to meet new contacts, make new references, etc. Essentially like I said, it’s a huge playground with new parts, nice cars and familiar faces. I definitely can’t wait for next week to come around!

Cassie Cash: Week 4: Everyone’s Getting Married

I totally feel the same way. A lot of my friend’s have been getting engaged or getting married. Time seems like it’s just flying right on by!

cassandra-cash:

I don’t know what is in the air, but I swear it feels like everyone I know is either getting engaged or married. I mean, I am 23 now and I understand that this is the time when most people start doing that whole engagement thing. My boyfriend went to a bachelor party in Scottsdale, Arizona, two…

Weekend.

I’ve been developing a habit of blogging on here about my weekend lately. I think this week I’ll be doing the same. Although it’s only Sunday my weekend has already been pretty adventurous. Typically now with how my schedule is my weekend starts pretty much on Friday now. Friday I decided to take my girlfriend out on a day out, we went to the typical spots and then we went out to dinner. Therefore this also means that I was obligated to go shopping with her for a few hours at South Coast Plaza as well which wasn’t too bad. I picked up a few things on Friday as well. On Saturday I had to wake up early to meet-up some car friend’s over at the ModBargains meet in Brea, California as a good amount of us had reserved spots over there and our team Europrojektz cruised on by. It was a surprise as a friend of our cruised on by too as it was his birthday. Obviously after the show we couldn’t let the birthday boy go home so we asked what he wanted to do and quite evidentially he said he wanted to go on a cruise. We took the 57 to the 5 to the 55 and shot down to Pacific Coast Highway and went on a cruise down to Fashion Island where we checked out a few stores and also went to the Tesla Showroom in Newport. Afterwards we decided to grab dinner at Javier’s. Well for those of you that don’t know, Javier’s is a interesting Orange County spot, it pretty much defines Newport/OC area, I’ve been here a few times and it’s always a cool atmosphere to relax. We were either going to dine here or go to the yacht club and grab dinner there. The night didn’t end there we finished it off by talking a brisk stroll through Balboa Island then went to Newport Peninsula. It’s really an odd feeling of how I’ve never really enjoyed OC as much sometimes even though it’s basically my backyard! Definitely going to go sailing soon over in Orange County!
